National Olympic Stadium in Tokyo by Zaha Hadid Architects Area: 290,000 m², Capacity: 80,000 people Estimated cost: US $1 billion, Estimated completion: March 2019 The National Stadium used for the 1964 Summer Olympics, located in Kasumigaoka, in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan, will essentially be torn down in 2015 to make way for the new venue in time for the 2019 Rugby World Cup and the 2020 Summer Olympics. It will also be the future home of the Japanese national football team. The new Tokyo National Stadium is more than a large sports facility designed to the highest design specifications and functional requirements. It is a piece of the city's fabric, and urban connector which enhances and modulates people moving through the site from different directions and points of access.
