What Not To Wear In Japan: Clothes To Avoid Wearing In Japan | 訪日外国人に服装についてのアドバイス | Tokyo
Information | History | View | Sightseeing | Video
If you are coming to Japan, you may wonder what to wear in Japan. Instead of what to wear I thought it would be easier to understand some things you should avoid wearing when in Japan. Apart from the things you should avoid, you can basically where anything you like. Even, if you do wear some of the clothing mentioned in the video - it doesn't really matter because Japanese don't expect foreigners to dress like them. However, it's good to respect and understand the culture of one's country before visiting! Hope this video helps! BIG THANK YOU TO THE PEOPLE WHO LET ME INTERVIEW THEM! So, this is not really a 'wear' thing. But how is the stigma around tattoo's these days in Japan? I'm a 22 y/o Dutch girl and I've got 3 tattoos, 2 are quite large (sakura blossom, big rose and 1 small arrow). I tried to cover them up as much as possible but sometimes when wearing a dress one shows a bit. Is this 'accepted' as a foreign person? I don't want to 'trouble' or be rude to anyone, but I only really find subjects about onsen and tattoos and most people commenting over there are males as well. It is a bit offopic maybe so sorry about that, but I'm very curious! I just found your channel and I immediately subscribed, you have great and informative content! Thanks a lot!

What about Zettai Ryoki?

Are short shorts okay?

You are already too cute with what you wear so if you wear anything more revealing would be distracting from the content of your channel. Hahaha! Great video :D

I really like Japanese culture n food but to me I think people should wear however they wanted. If they choose to blended in to the culture that's fine even if not that's also should be considerate as well. Don't judge others.

Ha as a 6ft3 white dude with long blonde hair I stood out no matter what I wore. But yeah I stuck to some normal shoes and clothes (as always)

I've been to Japan many times and I'd say bringing flip flops is the worst choice to make (unless it's just for the beach or pool). Even if it's during the summer, the types with flat soles aren't good for the feet. Actual walking shoes with a comfortable arch (not Converse, they tend to be flat as well) are most suited for walking and won't cause pain in the long run. On top of that, there are mosquitoes and some of them leave really itchy bumps so I'd stay away from the shorts as well (unless you pair it with leggings).

This video is so helpful to me! I'm going to Japan in March 2017 and really have no idea what to wear that would be inappropriate. I'm glad they said that about spaghetti straps...I didn't know that would be frowned upon, and like you say I don't want to offend anyone.

Yes I have noticed all these points here in japan.. and to add on japanese people wear very calm colors.. so avoid wearing bright orange, yellow, pink or red kind of colors. Most of the japanese wear shades of brown, black, white and blue.

I wonder why some japanese female students wear super-mini miniskirts for uniform.. eventhough there are sexual abuse too in Japan, sometimes? aren't they afraid of that?

Any rules on oversized or baggy clothes, for example: American Hip-Hop style?
