We found Japanese "Bike Jail!" [ft. Rachel] | Tokyo

We found a "bike jail" while walking around Tokyo :D I think this was the "bike jail" for the Shibuya district. So, basically you can get your bike thrown in "bike jail" if you park illegally. Most of the time when you park your bicycle illegally, nothing happens. Sometimes, you might come back and find a notice saying "your bike was parked illegally on [insert date] at [insert time]. Please don't do that." Very, very rarely, a large truck will go by and pick up any bike that has been parked illegally. I saw this truck picking up bikes once in Musashisakai (when I used to live over there) early in the morning - and once around noon in Kichijoji. I usually always pay for bike parking (100yen per day), so I've never had a bike thrown in bike jail. Tons of my friends have, though~ Rachel has a really awesome Youtube channel with her husband (and they do, like, actually pro videos): https://www.youtube.com/user/MyHusbandisJapanese And their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/RachelAndJun One-time donation (to support the creation of videos): http://howibecametexan.com/donate/ Monthly support via Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TexaninTokyo ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Buy my comic books: https://www.etsy.com/shop/TexaninTokyo My comics (on Amazon): http://goo.gl/5SzZCr My comics (on my blog): http://howibecametexan.com/latest_blog_posts/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ My blog: http://howibecametexan.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TexaninTokyo Twitter: https://twitter.com/texan_in_tokyo

So, just learn this things before go to Japan :D

what if you have a really tough lock and the police can't cut it? Do they just let it go?

Every day in Japan, thousands of bikes suffer from neglect in bike jail every year.... waiting for someone to help.
Thousands were rescued last year. But for thousands of others, help came too late.
Say you'll be the answer for an innocent bike in need of help. Please call the japanese-national-bike hotline,
For just 1860 yen a month, only 62 yen a day, you'll help rescue bikes from neglect and bike jail.
Call or join in the next 30 minutes, and you'll receive a welcome kit, with a photo of a bike in bike jail right now. One who's been given a second chance, thanks to you. -
I'm just amazed you have to register bikes in Japan.

In Finland, recovered but unclaimed stolen bikes are auctioned off by the police (and I remember the deals were not that great). It is probably the same in Japan with those bike jails and what not.
-
In America our bikes never get a chance to go to bike jail.
Latinos are our natural bike takers. All that is left is a broken lock.
My personal experience. Bikes are stolen within 1 hour.
Lesson learned ? Get a massive lock. -
Get a thick chain and tie it to a pole, checkmate :)
-
People in Africa need high quality Japanese bicycles.
-
Free them.
-
So, wait, you can't borrow a family members or a friends bike? Do they need to give you a permission slip or something?
And you are required by law to have a lock for your bike? Weird. There are less rules for owning guns in the US (thank goodness). -
Interestingly, while I lived in Japan for 3 years I rode a Cannondale mountain bike and the Police never once bothered me...which is good since I didn't have it registered. 'o_o

hahaha bike jail! love it!
-
rachel looks amazing.
-
Free bike = put it on craigslist and make 100% profit :D
-
I got stopped once but I mentioned I was borrowing it and had the lock so he let me go. I still haven't registered it after three years.
-
Man owning a bike is like owning car in Japan.
-
how can a bike be loud? are these motorized (motorcycle)?

Rachel and Grace is such a magical combo :)

in the netherlands its the same, because for every dutch person their are about 3 bikes and people park them every where!, so if you park it on a spot where you cant, you first get a label telling you its parked illegally and it will be removed within 5 days, than the lock gets cut and the bike gets taken to a depot where you have to pay a fine and get it back, but most people do not do it , either cause they think someone stole it, or they buy a 2ndhand bike that is cheaper than the fine..
