http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com Marine and I had such high hopes; numbers 8 and 9 on the Business Class upgrade list with 10 seats remaining was a longshot but still... Sigh. We sadly watched seats disappear as United Airlines travelers with higher status than us were upgraded. Into the bulkhead seats in Economy Class which are a good selection with plenty of leg room but Business Class flat recline seats would have been so wonderful. We'd already spent 2-1/2 hours in Economy on ANA, now 11-3/4 hours from Tokyo to Houston with an additional 2 hours from Houston to Chicago. Transiting through Houston was a nightmare. They do have Global Entry but then all Global Entry people were selected to have luggage x-rayed and they do not have TSA pre-clearance. Tell me again, why do we travel?

Dear Sheila,first of all,congratulations for your Travel journey,which I often follow.I know what you mean when there is no upgrade or just praying to get a decent seat.My brother works for United and my priority access is quite bad,but anyways.I have good experience with United in almost all my travels.I would recommend that you and your husband visit Managua,Nicaragua.Very nie people there and good food! Great trip Sheila. I thought you were 1k, right? so that must have meant that 8-9 Global services were able to leapfrog over you, or 1k's who had bought their tickets before you did got upgraded, is that right?

Sheila are you 1K? Upgrade on international are difficult to come by as 90-95% are paying passengers. You could have used miles to upgrade when booking

Ah, a Continental configured 777! How did it compare to the economy on United configured ones?
