Typhoon Vongfond, said to be this year’s strongest storm so far, is bearing down on Japan. According to CNN’s Weather Center, Typhoon Vongfond has weakened slightly on October 11, but remains a dangerous storm with sustained winds at 85 mph and gusts to 105, which is equivalent of a Category 1 hurricane. Gunnery Sergeant Brian Griffin, who is currently stationed in Okinawa, shared a video shot by the American Forces Network, of the heavy rain and strong winds lashing the island. "It is an intense storm and we have been inside for the past 26 hours,” he said. "The island is well prepared for the storm. Housing is constructed with these storms in mind and base residents listened to military officials when instructed to prepare their homes for this storm."
