Tsukiji Fish Market Guide: Tuna Auction and Breakfast Odyssey ★ ONLY IN JAPAN #27 築地市場潜入 | Tokyo
Information | History | View | Sightseeing | Video
The world's largest fish market is one of Tokyo's biggest attractions. Tsukiji is set to move to a new location soon so we went for a visit this month. ★ Tuna Auction 04:00 to 05:00 ★ Outer Market 06:00 to 09:00 ☆ Tuna Shop 08:00 ☆ Make Your Own Breakfast 08:30 ★ Inner Market 09:00 to 10:00 (Note: Photography and Video is prohibited inside the inner market until 09:00 every day.) Why is Tsukiji Tokyo's biggest attraction? Maybe it's because it's not a tourist attraction at all. This is a real market where many of Japan's best sushi chefs get their ingredients. It's raw and real. Tsukiji is essentially a city within a city. It has its own way of doing things. There are many rules to visiting Tsukiji. You should wear long pants, boots (if you have them – the floor is wet and full of fish guts), and you should be considerate of people's privacy, especially the sushi chefs shopping. The security guards have no trouble tossing you out at the gate! Photography is prohibited until 09:00 for privacy concerns. They are quite strict about this in the inner market. Breakfast: Should you eat at Sushi Dai? If you like waiting in line to eat the same fish at restaurants all around the area, go for it! There is no quality difference between restaurants in the inner market and those on the outside – all the ingredients come from the same place. We went into a stand in the outer market to see and yes, it was great! No haggling / bargaining in Tsukiji. The price is the price. Our guests for this episode are: ★ Greg Lane, founder and editor / writer for TokyoCheapo.com URL: http://tokyocheapo.com ★ Morita Hirobumi, head instructor for the Tsukiji Sushi Workshop URL: http://tsukiji-market.jp ★ Dru Tang, HinoMaple founder and Tokyo guide URL: http://hinomaple.com ☆ Special thanks to Masanori Numata for helping with the camera and also to Tsubasa Kaieda of www.tsukiji-market.jp for assisting on location. BREAKFAST: Maguro / Tuna shop in the outer market is here: MAP: https://goo.gl/maps/H4Okl Kaisendon tent with "Makase-don bowl" is here: https://goo.gl/maps/izkRx Public eating area in the outer market (vending machines and tables) is here: https://goo.gl/maps/Z0xIJ Uni and Hotate (scallops) were all purchased inside the inner market. You can shop yourself in the inner market after 09:00 or go with a shop owner anytime. Because Morita-san guided us, we were allowed entry. Please contact Tsukiji Sushi Workshop for ingredient tours of the inner market. Places and shops change over time so please note these places in the video may not be there in the future.

i can see why the Japanese stay in good health, eating the food in the raw must be awesome. no additive preservatives. i love sushi and sashimi but in the back of my mind, i'm always having a fear of parasites. I had parasites twice and food poisoning quite a few times.
Anyway, this vid has gotten me interested in fish so much, i just fried some cod and tilapia with lemon pepper and made sauce using a combination of;
*lemon juice
*mayo
*chili powder
*seafood seasoning
*sugar
was creamy, cool and good with the hot fish. GREAT VID!!! -
looks so good but I have a weak stomach and always throw up everyone I eat fish raw
I'm missing out -
Pretty cool being way over here in Atlanta, Ga. walking through Tsukiji fish market with John and hosts.
-
Wow! I saw a lot of tourists!

This guy is a pro filter and explainer. Why don't you have your own TV show? This is TV worthy!
-

We tried to get into the auction today (2016-09-15), here are some learnings:
- these days the registration starts at 2:00am
- 120 people get in
- the group was full at 2:45am, we got there at 3:20am :(
This might be just today, but consider checking it before. My guess is, that since the time the video was shot, the process changed. -
so you eat Tuna RAW??
-
10:42 bloody hell, look at the size of those crabs!

Thank you for being the first of the more popular videos to actually show what a normal visitor's experience will be like. I'm going to be staying in Tsukiji in a month and really wanted to see what the experience was like. Great video.

Probably one of the best experiences I had in my life. If you're in Tokyo you should definitely go and see it. The Tuna Auction is a must for a full experience. Check out the video I manage to shoot while I was there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FDAd1WuOHQ

Hello! I'm Jeena Salonga, a researcher from the Philippines under a media network named "GMA Network, Inc.". I have come across this video of Tsukiji Market in Japan. I would like to ask permission for usage of this video as a material for our segment on the program "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho" where we would be featuring some of the food markets and halls in Japan. This will be used for local and international replays and for our TV plugs as well. Rest assured that we will give proper credit on your photo as we use it. I hope you could let me know about your feedback on this, as soon as possible. Thank you!
