Meiji Shrine is a beautiful place, the green and its architectures are simply outstanding. However, I've seen many foreigners who actually went through the process of worshiping the shrine. I'm not judging, but seemed like many did not know this Shrine worships Meiji Emperor, who had a lot of contributions on reforming Japan into an industrial modern nation, on the other hand, also being one of the reasons that lead to the following military expansions, ended with tragic and countless lives lost (although it was his grandson who was the emperor during WW2, but the invasions toward other nations already started during Meiji's era). History teaches us lessons, we should always forgive but never forget. My ancestors fought and sacrificed against Japanese forces, still I visited Meiji Shrine few years ago, and I was impressed. Maybe no matter where you from, always keep in mind that how we should try to avoid historical errors, and always try for a better tomorrow. Those are the thoughts I had when I visited the Shrine, and I intend to share them with everyone.
