東京タワーは、記憶 -- A short montage of rare film footage and vintage photos of Tokyo Tower during construction from 1957-1958. Also featured are scenes from Takashi Yamazaki's award-winning 2005 motion picture "Always: Sunset on Third Street" in which the partially-erected Tokyo Tower was depicted through computer-generated imagery, or CGI. While there are thousands of videos on YouTube devoted to Tokyo Tower, there are few devoted to the historical aspects of its construction. Designed by renown architect Tachū Naitō, the iconic Tokyo Tower serves as a TV broadcast communications and observation tower. It was opened to the public on Dec. 23, 1958. While other towers have since surpassed Tokyo Tower's height, the structure is still the tallest self-supporting steel structure in the world -- 332.5 metres (1,091 ft), --and was the tallest artificial structure in Japan until April 2010, when the new Tokyo Sky Tree became the tallest building in Japan. Vintage newsreel footage from NHK Broadcasting and Tokyo Broadcasting System. Music by Naoki Sato from the original soundtrack of "Always: Sunset on Third Street" ("Always 三丁目の夕日") from Toho Co., Ltd. I adapted this video to the 2.35:1 widescreen anamorphic format of the motion picture. The audio was enhanced in post-production with stock sound effects and ambient noise since the original newsreel footage only contained narration.
