By now our athletes have finished the basic training. What they need is a good injection of inspiration by the very man who started the big bang of ethiopian athleticism. And i advise them to sit and watch this clip every day til the day they run in Rio. He is so wonderful man.

Did he run the entire race or just jogged around the track? He was stretching at the end.

The dignity on his face, the heroism of his accomplishment and the modesty of the man in victory remain inspiring to me more than fifty years later.

ABEBE BEKILA of Ethiopia was the greatest Olympiad of Marathon. He won twice 1960 (Rome - barefoot mind you) and Tokyo 1964.....full of grace and confidence. Since then, Ethiopia has been having the greatest Marathon runner in most of the Olympics. Thank you Tokyo for hosting, you had great video with immense clarity too. ታሪክ አይሞትም

The way he's cruising at the end and then afterwards goes right into his stretching routine, it looks like he just got done a quick jog around the block
-
When I was a boy, I read in SI how Abebe trained by running down pheasants. He inspired me in 1960 and still does today (I ran a 1:59 last weekend for a 1/2 at 62)
