Excellus will try to make it so Yashiro doesn't die, so he will heal him when he gets damaged enough. The trick? the amount of HP he heals him is taken away from Excellus. So this opens up 2 ways to damage him, either attack him directly or attack Yashiro enough. Excellus will change his resistances as the battle goes (you can tell what they are cause of his body color) and once he gets low enough in HP (or Yashiro dies) he will be weak to everything BUT he will spam MA-DYNE spells of all elements like mad, which makes it kinda hard to survive against him, therefore thats the point where you go all out on him pretty much (kill or be killed). Magic Mirrors come in handy in that phase as well if you are getting nuked too hard. Thankfuly they are both susceptible to ailments from Kiria's SP attack, so you can get yourself an extra turn or 2 with that. Enjoy!
