日本語版はこちら:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqxfIc2yeDU Project website: http://josephta.me/tokyo-marathon-2016/ For the 2016 Tokyo Marathon, I took my annual live-streaming of the full Tokyo Marathon to a whole new level, fulfilling a dream I'd had for the past five years: Livestreaming it to the public in FULL 360 DEGREE INTERACTIVE VIDEO! In late 2015, I came across the work of Shunichi Kasuhara, a researcher at Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Tokyo. Kasahara's project, 'Jack-In' (https://www.sonycsl.co.jp/project/2373/) focuses on exploring interactive systems for the transmission of real-time first-person experience, the storage and sharing of total experiences, and humans augmenting humans. His ongoing work traces the contours of the relationships between humanity and technology, and between human beings themselves, as they become redefined by the “human as medium” phenomenon. I approached Shunichi just weeks before the marathon, suggesting a a collaboration. I was delighted when he accepted. He then worked tirelessly for 6 weeks to transform his "Jack-in Head' system into something portable that I could carry during the race. Shunichi’s software algorithm stitches the images from two cameras in real time, stabilises them, and then the signal is sent to a LiveU broadcast unit from where it is transmitted over multiple LTE networks to a receiving server run by 360 live streaming specialists http://Panoplaza.com On the day itself, the technical team were joined by a roving support team, led by Phil, Nami, John and Jonathan. I was also very happy to be supported by Simon and Martina, although I wouldn't necessarily have chosen natto as a good meal choice to first meet over! Thankfully those memories were later washed with a nice drink of Pocari Sweat! In addition to being live streamed in 360 by Panoplaza using the Jack-in Head, I also streamed the entire race live via Periscope using a GoPro and an amazing gimbal from ikan http://ikancorp.com/productdetail.php... - thank you to the kjnd folks there for their support. Thank you also to all my friends and family who tuned in on the day and made the project such a success!
