They seemed pretty much the same to me. They both go to different spots, so your best bet is to buy the all day ticket for both lines and then it shouldn't matter which line you need to hop on to get where you're going.
Would you say the Metro is better than the JR East system?
Learn their metro train systems. Once you get those down, the whole city is yours. : )
