Very curious why Koike is called "tough as nails" -- based on exactly what? That she keeps changing parties? Not sure what people are pointing to for this characterization. Plays well in some circles. Not sure what characteristics is considered needed for a candidate to be considered qualified. How about someone that can manage the workforce of 165,000 employees and the annual budget in tens of billions of dollars. Someone who can manage the bureraucracy that is required to get anything done. Iit seems that it really is all about name recognition and face appeal in these short turnaround local elections.

Not a huge fan of Koga, but come on, he was sacked from the Hodo Station because he criticized Abe's tightening control of the media.
And Koike didn't leave LDP.
