So does the kagune piercing Yoshitoki's body mean that Marude is a ghoul? Or could it be that Marude somehow made Matsuri kill his father, which would explain the gun in Matsuri's possession?

I wanna start reading this. I watched the anime a while back, so I'm not sure if I should just start reading from the beginning in case the anime was different at all or didn't follow the manga.(I'm just starting to get into reading manga :P)

I think Matsuri lied about the attack because he wanted to keep the fact that the Washu are ghouls because if he admits that Marude was the one to attack Yoshitoki then that would bring up questions and that would give Marude the opportunity to say that the Washu clan are ghouls but since Matsuri said that it was an unknown assailant it separates Marude to Yoshitoki clearing any suspicion of the washu clan of course it didn't work since Urie questioned the report itself, at least that's my opinion on why he lied to Urie.
