Some thoughts as a Tokyo resident of 14 years on winning the IOC bid and the controversy around the ongoing accident at Fukushima and its impact. Want to see where the Olympics will be staged within Tokyo? Here is the bid plan: https://tokyo2020.jp/en/plan/venue/ They will spend 4billion dollars on preparation, 1.3 billion on the stadium behind me in this vid. Why do you think it's not easy for tourists to visit Tokyo? I've always wanted to visit so that's why I'm curious..thanks.

I've always wanted to get something off my chest: I hate this dude, and I hate the frowning on his forehead

Japan co-hosted the World Cup in 2002- what issues?
-
the anti-Erdogan protests ultimately ruined their bid as safety looked a lost cause at times. Turkey is unfortunately too close to the Middle East and Iran to assure a lot of countries' athletes that they would be safe...
-
it did help that a lot of the venues were pre-existing and outside of London (rowing, soccer, equestrian) and that Britain is a cycling powerhouse (velodromes waste and cost money otherwise). The Olympic Park has also shoved the locals in the East End out of the property market and will soon shove them out as well....

Sounds right. The Zaha Hadid design is stunning and should be a definite tourist stop in Tokyo as well as a major sporting venue going forward. I'm not much of an olympic fan but I will probably try to get over and see it when it's completed for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

Get a directional mic dooooooood.....

Imagine if there is another big earth quake just before the Olympics. Japan's economy will be dead. I hope not, I'm running a business here lol!

早速ビデオ作ったんだ?なんという素早さ。素晴らしいね。

My understanding is that this stadium will be demolished in 2015 to make way for a brand new structure designed by London architecture office Zaha Hadid. Her office's design won the international design competition last year to design the olympic stadium. I dont think any of the existing building will remain. Super excited for 2020!! BTW, if you havent had a chance you should go to see Kenzo Tange's 1964 olympic building in Yoyogi. It's amazing!

I will give it my best to be there! :D Hiko! Il be 30! And three years already in as a lawyer! Crazy!

Tokyo was the safest bet among the finalists.

I'm very happy for Tokyo. Visited 7 times so far despite my fear of flying and its never let me down yet. Great people, food and culture with a "get it right" mindset. Nobody is perfect but the folks in Japan really make an effort to get everything as right as possible and I appreciate that.

cant believe tokyo got it who will want to go there in 2020

I'm was not to impressed about all this olympic "hey ho!" talk.. Until I saw the design for stadium, WTF!? youtu.be/1Lzk2GeVRrA?t=4m21s

Nice video hiko. Hopefully I'll be in Tokyo by then. All the best to you and japan :)
-
I'd guess the situation in Syria played a role in the decision

Always wanted to visit Istanbul - hopefully their time will come soon. Turkey deserves a lot more respect than it gets from the world.

I guess in the end of the day, Tokyo was the lowest financial risk, and I also think the showing of the PM on the final day made a huge difference (one the last bid did not have, and Ishihara was very upset about). Feel bad for Madrid though, they needed the boost. Good on Vancouver too - not too far away!
