Tokyo Central (Marukai) Japanese Market - Hot Deli Section Food - Butaniku no Shogayaki, Buta Kushikatsu/Kushiage, Karaage, Onigiri [Unboxing 4K UHD ASMR] Hello everybody, In this video, I show and eat some of the 2nd meal I purchased from a recent visit to Tokyo Central Market in Costa Mesa, CA. This is a continuation or 2nd part from the previous video (https://youtu.be/28MDzHvjCqc) featuring some of the prepared food from Tokyo Central Market’s deli-section. In this video, I sample some of the offerings from their hot-plate and buffet deli-section in particular. Their hot-deli section is pretty extensive, with a large variety of both traditional and Yoshoku (Western style) Japanese foods, as well as non-Japanese items on occasion (like Nashville Hot Chicken for example). When I got there, however, it was a bit late; so, most of the hot-plates were almost or totally empty. Fortunately though, there was still a decent selection for me to choose from when I was there (around 7:30pm). I purchased Kushikatsu (panko breaded deep-fried pork chunks on skewers), Karaage (fried chicken), Shogayaki (ginger pork grilled) and a few Onigiri rice balls. Everything was darn tasty and to my liking. The Kushikatsu (I believe it’s called kushiage if made with chicken?) was stout and plentiful, made with very large chunks of high-quality Mugi pork and random onion slices and zuchinni in between. This was all wrapped in a crunchy coating of deep-fried panko armor. I could really tell the difference of this Mugi pork, as compared to the usual ordinary pork you’d get at let’s say the local grocery down the street. It didn’t have that off-putting funk at all (which I sometimes taste from cheaper pork from Costco or the regular supermarket). It is hard to describe; but it definitely tasted much fresher and more delicious. I also enjoyed the Shogayaki I bought from Tokyo Central Market’s buffet section. It too was made from their high-quality Mugi pork. This time, it was sliced thinner (about 1/3” thick), marinated and fried on a griddle I believe. The marinade and sauce was very sweet, with strong notes of mirin and ginger. I enjoyed it greatly and was a nice change from the more commonly used (and sometimes bitter) garlic marinades of other SE Asian pork-chop marinated dishes. Karaage was the last meat item I got for this to-go meal I bought from Tokyo Central Market’s hot deli-section. This wasn’t extraordinarily delicious nor different by any means. But, it was still well executed and tasty. The batter and coating was good and crunchy. The taste was garlicky and salty with soy sauce flavor. And, most importantly imo, it was cooked well, leaving the chicken inside its' crispy shell juicy, moist and tender. Karaage is almost always a must-have when I see it. To round out this entire meat-laden meal and give it a clean canvas, was rice. But, not the usual rice scooped up into a plate or bowl. For this meal, I decided to buy 2 Onigiri rice balls, both with different toppings/fillings. One onigiri contained slightly grilled salmon meat. And the other, was filled with spicy tuna (spicy mayonnaise). I enjoyed both and they really did make this meal more interesting and delicious. I recommend them. Hope you enjoyed watching.
