Highlights of the Opening Ceremony of Tokyo Olympics held in 1964. Tokyo hosted 93 nations and 5.151 athletes. It was the very first time in history the Summer Olympics took place in Asia and, eventually, in Japan The Opening Ceremony was held at Tokyo National Stadium on October 10. The Olympic Cauldron was lit by Yoshinori Sakai, born on Hiroshima the very day of atomic bombing (August 6th, 1945)

I love that the athletes actually marched in the opening ceremonies, as opposed to now which looks all casual and sloppy. I think things started to turn in the 80s. Wish it could come back to this.

It's interesting how the athletes march in orderly unison in the opening ceremonies back then, compared to casually walking about in more modern ones.

For me not being born till 1973. I find it ironic that some of these countries don't even exist anymore. It was strange seing a S.Vietnam flag etc.
