Setlist Menu - Come Alive, Psycho Vision, I saw your Mommy. Gig Report : Saw these guys play last night - good gig, good sound mix. Maybe a little too much whammy bar and cymbal roll between songs IMHO. I don't know whether this was to give Mike Muir a chance to catch his breath, or if there were technical issues. They appeared to have some minor technical issues with the bass amp - the tech turns it off and back on several times during the gig. But all the small issues aside, the band played very well, tight and polished and connected with the audience well. The songs they picked were diverse - even old school tracks like "I saw your mommy" and "Institutionalised" which was cool. "You can't bring me down" was another track I was pleased to hear. I'm sure that every diehard Suicidal Tendencies fan there got their moneys worth. This was a sideline headliner gig - the Suis played "Punkspring", a huge punk festival over the weekend with a large collection of overseas and local medium to big names, like Offspring, Sum 41, etc... They played this extra gig for everyone who just wanted to see them, and the turnout was pretty good. Once again the Japanese crowd played well with others and everyone had a good time. There was a lively moshpit with well defined edges that the moshers respected, so no-one was jostled about who didn't want to be. I was especially impressed with Mike Muirs complete lack of rockstar attitude... minutes after the gig, he invited people up onstage for photos. A few people became about 80 in a matter of minutes, and the bouncers came out to stop the rest of the patrons from jumping up too, but Mike didn't mind and spent quite a long time having group photos taken with a swarm of bandana and suis cap wearing fans. Mike Clark played tight rythmn, Dean Pleasants played very nice solos and the bassist Thundercat played competently as well. Another reason I was keen to check them out was Eric Moore the drummer - he is a fantastic gospel and fusion drummer, so I wanted to see him lay down beats for a metal band, and naturally he did it all without any effort whatsoever. Small solo in the middle, but nothing too flashy - stick twirls and some fills - the crowd was pleased, but I was hoping for more of course, being a drummer myself. I consider myself lucky to have seen Suicidal Tendencies live. A night to remember.
