03/22/2013 The first sign of trouble came in a call late Thursday. There was a shooting at a Virginia Marine base, and the suspect was holed up in a room in the barracks. Using a public address system, police announced a lockdown at Marine Corps Base Quantico and surrounded the building where the suspect was barricaded. They ordered everyone to stay in their homes, doors locked. After the standoff ended hours later, three people lay dead, including the suspect, who had a self-inflicted wound. The base became a crime scene, as authorities lifted the lockdown and searched for answers. Initial notification The notification of the initial shooting came about 11 p.m., at which point authorities found one dead victim, according to Agustin Solivan, a Marine Corps spokesman. Authorities from the base and Prince William County surrounded the suspect, who was in barracks not far from where the first shooting occurred. Two hours later Law enforcement officials entered the room two hours later and discovered the shooter dead of a self-inflicted wound. Another victim was in the room with him, fatally shot. It was unclear whether the three knew each other, but they are all Marines, according to Solivan. The suspect was a staff member at the officer candidate school, said Capt. Eric Flanagan, another spokesman. The suspect is believed to be a male. The motive is unknown.
