SHINKANSEN - TOKYO TO KYOTO | Tokyo
Information | History | View | Sightseeing | Video
Say "Japan" and the term "Bullet Train" will not be far from the conversation. The Japanese invented the concept of a "high speed" trains with the inaugural of the first line between Tokyo and Osaka in October 1964 just in time for the Tokyo Olympics. The Japanese haven't looked back since in developing generation after generation of better and faster "bullet trains". Well no one in Japan calls it a "bullet train" - officially it is know as the "S H I N K A N S E N". It has become, like Mt. Fuji, a symbol of J A P A N. It is of interest that Japan is about to introduce the next step with the CHUO SHINKANSEN - a "maglev" train that in testing has reached 581 kph. Which raises the question, when is fast - too fast.

If you complain about the Japanese trains then try to travel on Hungarian trains and you will see what you get compared to Japan.

Almost all shinkansens have no snack bars, normally a lady w/ push cart would be selling snacks and drinks (she will surely walk through the aisle to sell her stuff). And as for each stop of the shinkasen, everything is timely calculated.(I cannot understand why you are not aware of the schedule)

The McDonalds capsule eating area is a pretty good idea i think.

The Shinkansen is so smooth it always feels like you're going slower than you are! :)
And on the Shinkansen the snack bar comes to you! If you wait in your seat long enough a girl with a cart comes around. You can buy drinks, bento, sandwiches, snacks, etc. from her. -
Jesus Christ you complain a lot. You're in another country, of course things are going to be different and difficult, suck it up!!!

Are the signs in English or not ? How do you know where to get off or what train to take .... ?

local and non stop trains runs at the same speed actually, 285 kph, about 185 mph.
local kodama takes longer because it stops all the station and wait for limited exp.
there is no reason to take kodama to travel from tokyo to kyoto.

I had the good fortune to make several Shinkansen trips in the middle of May 2015.
Including this trip Tokyo-Kyoto.
Note how spotlessly clean everything is.
The commentator gives the impression that snacks are not available.
On the trips I made food/drink was brought thru the carriages.
I would like to have seen a speed indicator.
I was in a group. One member had an app that showed we traveled at 187 miles per hour.
I find that difficult to believe My guess would be 120 - 130.
Shinkansen are presented as super expresses but the journey I made was not non stop.
The rail trips were a wonderful experience and my visit to Japan was really enjoyable.
The main problem is getting to Japan from the UK. -
one quick question.
how long was the doors to the bullet train open? -
I enjoy the video

Hi mate:)
Really enjoyed this video, thanks. Must say the bullet train looked clinically clean and very comfortable, but as you pointed out also lacked some facilities. Hope someday to experience that for myself. Looking forward to your next blog on the capsule hotel.
Cheers from Ireland :)
