Amazing project, guys. I reckon the fact how many miles have actually been skated is not of importance for the message of the vid.. still I'm quite intrigued by that question.
Another thing, can you tell me which camera was used?
As for my two cents on the subject matter: I started skateboarding roughly 20 years ago in some deserted farm town. Naturally, people did not approve. But that's part of the picture. By being an outsider, you grow out of this habit to judge other people based on the things they like and do. So there's a good chance to change the status quo.
With the Olympics, some skateparks might be built in countries and odd places where it would have been unimaginable beforehand. This brings more kids to skateboarding, yet without the natural confrontation with the society. I mean, what always brought skateboarder together, was that we accept and embrace the fact we stand outside society in a certain way.
Yet here comes the big BUT: No matter what goal brings you to skateboarding in the first place. If it's just for the sake for being a fabulous olympic contestant, so be it. With all the pain you have to live through on the way, it still changes you in the same way as any other street skateboarder. Sure, other sports come with pain as well, but there's hardly any other sport where one trick attempt can easily crash your bones and render you unable to perform for half a year. So there goes your training. Without embracing skateboarding fully, meaning: not giving a shit if you break a leg doing a 10 stair kickflip, you won't make it to the Olympics anyway. So you can't train it the same way as other sports. All the sport fanatic officials who push the country's sports programs will have to wake up to that fact. Skateboarding, by definition, is carried out on a completely different level than any other sports. Call it 'street' or whatever. In the end, you have to rise above what anyone expects from you, and just do it for the love of it. And this, I believe, means that what always brought skateboarders together and created the scene will not vanish yet potentially thrive through the olympic program.
Take it from the way skateboarding 'changed' in the last 20 years. You have those crappy X-Games. You see how skateboarding has been commercialized, how it's been used commercially to appeal to young consumers.. or how certain skateboarders have been made media muppets (I'm thinking Ryan Sheckler)... ya know, all that crap. Do skateboarders like that? I'd say no. I hate it. But I still see the same skate sessions going on in the skateparks around the world as they were conducted 20 years ago. So.. in the end.. who cares about the olympics anyhow. -
name songs please!

If you want skateboarding at the olympics, you're a jock on wheels and should leave skateboarding alone.
It's already been prostituted in all other ways possible. Don't make it worse.
"skaters" who raise their head the second after landing a trick to see how much they have scored are a disgrace to what they love. -
DON'T DO IT
