For the first time in six years, the Tokyo metropolitan government has revised its projection for one of four earthquake outcomes. If a 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck at 6 p.m. in the winter, it would kill more than 9,6000 people and injure 150,000. About 300,000 building would be destroyed and many would burn to the ground. According to the University of Tokyo's Research Center, there is a 50 percent chance that a mega quake is going to strike Tokyo within four years. It will also have a major impact on the capital's economy. And what of the thousands of injured, sick, and infirm who won't be able to get to a hospital? Tokyo's local government is telling people and businesses how to prepare for an earthquake. But many say more needs to be done. Tokyo's government said it would revamp its disaster plans based on this latest report in September.
