ANCHOR: Another blow to Peruvian soccer. FIFA has banned Peru from international competition over an ongoing dispute between the team and their countrys government. STORY: The president of world soccer's ruling body said Peru had until Monday the 24th to end a long-running feud between their football federation and the government or face an immediate international ban. [Eduardo de Luca, S. American Football Confed.]: "A statement came from the International Federation of Football (FIFA) that said the Peruvian Football Federation was suspended from all international competition. From this date, a side dialogue has been opened to see in what manner an accord between the national authorities and the Peruvian federation can be reached." The announcement marks a new low for Peruvian football which has been in steady decline since reaching its heyday during the 1970s. The Peruvian government's Institute of Sports does not recognize FPF president Manuel Burga, claiming his election was irregular. Burga apologized to the Peruvian people for the situation. [Manuel Burga, FPF President]: "The main problem is that the Peruvian law is not compatible with the FIFA statutes." South American Football Confederation officials say FIFA will deal with Peru's membership at its next executive committee meeting in Tokyo next month. They remain confident the dispute will be resolved. [Eduardo de Luca, S. American Football Confed.]: "The Peruvian Federation received the unconditional support of all the presidents, of all the members of the Executive Committee. And a vote of applause was made for the defense of the institutionality on the part of Manuel Burga, president of the Federation." Peru has already been stripped of the right to host next year's South American under-20 championship because of the dispute.
