There's a posting of U of Michigan Symphony Band under Revelli (1967) here on youtube. The sonorities, precision, balance, voiceing, etc are over the top. See what you think.
-
@bene951 Try University of Michigan Symphony Band under Revelli - you won't be disappointed!
-
@musoderelict The recording of the United States Marine Band under Colonel Timothy W. Foley is much better than the Northwestern Symphonic Wind Ensemble. The album is called emblems.
-
@bene951 Thank you for that!
-
@musoderelict Maybe, but quite "noisy" to my taste....It sounds like big noise to me...
-
@bene951 Would you mind telling which performance(s) you think are better than this one? I'd be interested to know. So far this is the best one I've found! - Thanks

this is a great recording

I played this in college many years ago. All of Hindemith's pieces are very difficult.
-
@mediaman6 I definitely understand where you are coming from. We sight read this in our ensemble. Unfortunately the group was weak that year so we gave up.
-
This is one of the hardest pieces to play. Our band did it and got a I in contest after a LOT of practice. I still refer to this as "If I could do that, then I can do this." Thanks for posting as this this is probably the best performance I've ever heard.

Who is the conductor?
-
Wow...as usual for Hindemith.
