Information | History | View | Sightseeing | Video
The best way to exchange money, what clothes to bring, toiletries and food you can/can't get in Japan, and gifts! What you should take with you to Japan. Something I forgot to mention but is really important--VITAMINS!! They're VERY expensive in Japan ($30+ for one bottle!) This video ended up a bit long so here's a guide if you're only interested in certain sections: 0:11 - Passport/Visa 0:52 - Various money exchanging methods 1:45 - The best way to exchange money 3:15 - What kind of clothes you should take 5:29 - Toiletries you can/can't get in Japan 6:24 - Why you should consider bringing a pillow 6:53 - Electronics & Adapters 7:06 - Some food you can/can't get in Japan 7:58 - Gifts you should consider bringing 8:48 - What you should NOT bring to Japan (HINT: IT'S DRUGS!!) It was getting progressively darker as I took this video and I guess I thought it would be a good idea to shine my computer right at my face. And I am not in any way being paid by Capital One or anything similar. I highly recommend doing your own research before making any decisions about money! so I'm planning a trip to Japan in the future but I have insomnia and take melatonin supplements would I be alright taking those with me or just leave them at home?
(I realize this is a fairly old video but I'm genuinely curious) -
can you sleep on the plane to Japan.
-
remember kids and teenagers no drugs.

I am planning on living in Japan in 2017 and wondering how long can I survive on $4000 alone before anything?

It is really surprising but very important to know that non-Japanese issued credit and debit cards WILL NOT WORK at most places outside of airports, 7-11 stores (which are life-safers for tourists including free wi-fi which is otherwise non-existent) and post offices. This includes train and subway stations!!! So HAVE CASH, especially small denominations (under ~ $5 US are all coins).

Is it possible to get an exemption for ADHD meds (Concerta/methylphenidate)? Or is it impossible to bring those into Japan?
-
Thanks for the tips :)
Still, I found Japan to actually be cheaper than Israel in certain specific things. -
By drugs do you mean prescription drugs? or like cocaine drugs?

I'd like to bring peppermint oil mix spray that I mix on my own so it doesn't have a label. It just consists of (water, peppermint oil, & coconut oil) I will put it in a 3oz transparent spray bottle. Is this ok that it doesn't have a label? I use it for my allergies. It helps with my throat inflammation & clears my airway.
Also, are supplements without labels ok? I guess they can't even tell for the gummy supplements but what about the pill looking ones? They all need a real bottle label? -
This was impressively thorough. Thanks.

i'm travelling to japan with my sister, she has diabetes type 1 and has to bring insuline with her. do you have any tips on how to take care of those things on the airport?

Does the capital one thing you mentioned apply to credit cards as well, or is it just for the debit card? Also, has that changed recently? I might be going on a homestay this summer and I want to be able to exchange my money without a large fee.....

what about anti-seizure meds, are they allowed?
-
what if I want to stay there?

I was wondering whether or not I should bring a gift for the host in the AirBnB I will be renting? I am renting the full home so they will not be there, but I will probably meet them when I arrive so I'm curious.
