It can be confusing which train to use to get into tokyo. I used both the skyliner and NEX and prefer the skyliner over price and journey time. Research is definitely required before hand as your first journey into tokyo likely to be overwhelming. I've visted NY, paris and London on my own and nothing compares to how busy tokyo stations are (particularly ueno and shinjuku).
