Ok, i will do something it should NOT be done: and that is to compare artists, specially Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett. But I am a big fan of both, two legendary, unique, brilliant pianists. I have loved them both for at least three decades. I am only doing it because it is Nardis, a tune that Bill Evans played and recorded throughout his career. First of all, thanks so much for posting it. It's been two years it was uploaded but it is becoming more difficult to find new material from Keith Jarrett online. Keith Jarrett's solos are most of the time unique experiences in melodies, phrasing and overall beauty. He is a master of phrasing and I think he is the most melodic jazz musician of all time (here i am comparing people again). This solo is no different - i just didn't like his last chorus, full of super fast scalar movement. What I didn't really like was the overall tempo, a bit on the slow side, not enough energy, no contrasts. That in itself is no big problem, but then I felt like remembering Bill Evans trio various renditions of Nardis and it's hard to compare. Bill Evans took this tune to a new level of jazz piano trio playing. With Nardis, Bill Evans re-wrote the medium. His long and deep introductions of this tune open new grounds for jazz trios and it has certainly inspired Keith Jarrett himself. Bill Evans Trio has made this tune transcendental. I think Keith Jarrett might have felt the pressure a bit…just saying it...

Jarret is saying to Peacock "throw that cigarette or you're out!" ahah
-
Some of Peacock's lines sound as if they're coming from a shamisen... Interesting!
