This was taken in the Candeo Hotel lobby in downtown Tokyo during the 9.0 earthquake on March 11th. The hotel was built less than 2 years ago, and the creaking you hear in the video are the joints between the floors and walls as the entire hotel moves back and forth. Earthquake engineering at its finest!

It's so notably different how this modern structure handles such a huge Earthquake without violent shaking as we see in other videos.

How strange, this impressed me much...I begun to watch the video and I saw that the guy at the lobby desk, asked to speak to a room through the lobby phone. When he got the line and spoke I realized he was italian like me..he called his girlfriend Francesca and repeated to her almost obsessively to keep very calm, and stay still, and kept calling her by her name...she must have been frantic, truly! When she answers no more he asks if they can let him go upstairs and apparently he managed to. :\

No se cayó ni un plato de la decoracion !!! Acá en Chile ya se estan construyendo algunos edificios así Vivo al norte del pais y aca tiembla tanto como en el sur. Nosotros esperamos el proximo gran terremoto.

Puedo oir que alguien habla en español. Acá en Chile sí sabemos de terremotos fuertes y largos. Lamentablemente no conservamos la calma como los japoneses.
