The restored copy is believed to be the only, or only surviving color motion picture taken of the Japanese Surrender in Tokyo Bay on 2 September 1945. The film was taken by Commander George F. Kosco,, USN (USNA Class of 1930), who at the time was Admiral "Bull" Halsey's 3rd Fleet Staff Aerologist and Navigator. Official government films of the surrender were all taken in customary black and white - easily developed and transferred. A member of the Navy film crew, Leif Erickson, gave Commander Kosco 16mm color film and a camera he then used to film the surrender from the Missouri's Navigation Deck. Leif Erickson was a movie and TV actor during the period 1930-1970. A copy of this film was donated to the USAHEC by the son of Commander George F. Kosco.
