NHK is about to present a new TV drama called Massan. The drama is about a Scottish lady who married a Japanese man. She called her husband Massan. Her husband was the founder of Nikka whisky company which is now a subsidiary of Asahi beer company. He was sent to Scotland in 1918 in order to learn the secrets of whisky-making. He took courses in organic chemistry at Glasgow uni., and they met there and married in 1920,and 10 months later, they arrived in Japan. Throughout her life, she provided loyal support to her husband and his vision to establish whisky in japan. During WWⅡ、the secret police suspected her of being a spy and she was not allowed to leave Hokkaido where they lived. She passed away in 1961, aged 65, without ever having returned to Scotland . Fortunately,in 1959 her youngest sister traveled to Japan.
NHK held auditions in Japan and abroad to select the leading actress, playing the role of the Scottish lady, and selected an American actress who couldn't speak a word of Japanese until last year.
You might be interested in the drama, because you have something in common with her. Although the drama is some fiction added, but it's based on the true story.
The drama will be on the air from Sep.29,2014 to Mar.28,2015, 150 episodes in total. one episode is 15 min.. We can watch the drama Mon. to Sat. from 8:00 am to 8:15 or rebroadcasted from 12:45 in the afternoon. -
Congratulations!! :) May I ask you how long you have been married now? I am getting married to my Japanese fiancé next week and this whole visa thing frustrates me so much. I am switching to a spouse visa first of course but I cant wait to "be done" with Immigration lol

Congratulations! I like the way you think and the way you are committing yourself to Japan. It does makes things easier I guess. I am suppose to ask for it too but I will wait a little more. I am not in a rush. My life is in Japan and has been for almost 10 years, but I feel if I get the permanent citizenship my husband will take me for granted lol

YAY!!! Congrats!
I still have to think about if I will apply for permanent residency but we do want to live in another country in the future...just have to decide where haha
I think I will have stronger feelings about it once the baby is born but this video gave me some other things to consider!
Thanks for sharing! -
Congratulation on the Permanent Residency.
"I am not Permanent Resident of Japan! Yay!" I was very confused by this until I realised you mistyped *now.
