JAPANESE FOOD - build your own raw fish bowl | Tokyo

I am not a "foodie." I like food. I like cooking. I like trying all sorts of cuisines from all around the world. But I don't have a preference for "expensive" food. I'm happy has a clam eating food from stalls and tiny hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Most of the time, I can't taste the difference between a $10 plate of food and a $50 plate of food - and even when I can - it's usually not worth the price jump. Rachel and I went to this restaurant last time she was in Tokyo. The name of this restaurant is "Wakasaya" and it's a five minute walk from Shinjuku station (the largest train station in Japan). It's also located smack in the middle of "Kabukicho," the red light district of Tokyo. So. Yeah. Hahahah. Even though it's the "red light district" it's still incredibly safe. No need to worry. And no, this isn't a sponsored video. Because I know a lot of people ask about that. This is a restaurant we just found on the free wifi at Shinjuku station that looked cheap~ One-time donation (to support the creation of videos): http://howibecametexan.com/donate/ Monthly support via Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TexaninTokyo ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Buy my comic books: https://www.etsy.com/shop/TexaninTokyo My comics (on Amazon): http://goo.gl/5SzZCr My comics (on my blog): http://howibecametexan.com/latest_blog_posts/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ My blog: http://howibecametexan.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TexaninTokyo Twitter: https://twitter.com/texan_in_tokyo

When u eat raw meat and fish don't you worry about parasites and food poisoning?
-
ah yes, the main staple of a japanese diet. fish...I don't like fish D: ESPECIALLY raw salmon. it's so, salty and fishy. kinda like going to a market and seeing the fish out there. just...ewww. it'd make living in japan abit more difficult for me also, the summer would murder me...so I'd best only visit.

thanks for putting the name of the restaurant up; I watch so many videos where I think "man, I want to go there too!"

I was there in that restaurant when I went to Japan in the summer. I stayed at the Hotel Gracery in Shinjuku, which is very close by!

Grace, can you give us some tips for traveling inside Tokyo? I'll hopefully be attending a language school in Tokyo and I'm very interested in how the heck do I get from Narita airport to Shinjuku station and how to get information at that station if I can't read Japanese. Sure I'll get hiragana and katakana down, but... I'm guessing the school will help me out in one way or another, but I'm really hoping to get as much information as I can before I go. I realize this might not be a very interesting topic for the majority of people... but if you can give us future Tokyo visitors some useful tips that would be much appreciated. :)

Grace, can you comment on what it would be like to be a vegetarian in Japan? I was raised vegetarian and at this point in my life (20 yrs old) I can't eat meat even if I wanted to because I don't have the enzymes to break it down. But yeah, I was just wondering, what would it be like to be a vegetarian in Japan and would people look at you weird if you didn't eat meat?

They have one of these in LA's Little Tokyo district. It's one of my favorite places to eat at when I go into the city :)

Hii, I love your videos! And I don't mean to make this sound rude but...
Those subtitles don't let me appreciate the video XD It's just that I can't get all the information at once, reading and listening to different things. I'd rather watch a longer video with all the info than pause it to read the subtitles. =D Greetings from Panama ♥ -
I'm going to assume that the lighting was yellow, and thus the salmon was yellow? Even though the food isn't "high quality" you can still trust it's safe to eat, right? o.o
