Japan's a "greying" country, with few children being born and a shrinking young workforce. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's daring economics plan, dubbed Abenomics, has not been able to affect much of a change in this regard, and has run across hard times. I disagree with Nancy that this is primarily a lifestyle choice. Having children is very expensive, and most couples in their 20’s can’t afford to have kids. If and when they do eventually have kids, they often limit to one child, because more would be too expensive.
Salaries have not risen in a long time, but the cost of living has. Childcare is very expensive. Legislation is not very supportive of working mothers. There are so many issues here that LIMIT people’s choice to have children. -
