Information | History | View | Sightseeing | Video
Japan Airlines Flight 123 was a Japan Airlines domestic flight from Tokyo International Airport (Haneda) to Osaka International Airport (Itami). On Monday, August 12, 1985, the Boeing 747-146SR that made this route, registered JA8119, suffered mechanical failures 12 minutes into the flight and 32 minutes later crashed into two ridges of Mount Takamagahara in Ueno, Gunma Prefecture, 100 kilometers (62 mi) from Tokyo. The crash site was on Osutaka Ridge (御巣鷹の尾根), near Mount Osutaka. All 15 crew members and 505 out of 509 passengers died, resulting in a total of 520 deaths and four survivors. It is the deadliest single-aircraft accident in history, and the second-deadliest accidental plane crash in history behind the Tenerife airport disaster.

Really. I'm an engineer. Not sure why Boeing put just one row row of riverts on the bulkhead rather two?

weiter weiter ins verderben

やめろ!だわ

Just so you know, this is not the first time engine throttle differential was used. I think it was first used during Operation Babylift in 1975 when the cargo door broke off.

ya bu video beni çok etkiledi.o anları yaşamak hissettim.cok kötü oldum.allah kimseye bu anları ve acıları yasatmasin.

man dying in a plane crash doesnt seem so bad if it just wipes you out in 30 seconds. Whats terrifying is situations like these.. an explosion, then imagine falling like that every few minutes for so long. Knowing you're going to die. Even burning in a crash wouldn't be as bad I think. You'd probably pass out from the lack of oxygen in such a hot fire before you could really feel it.

I can't believe they postponed the rescue operation till the morning because, "There weren't going to be any survivors anyway." So many people who could've been otherwise saved simply didn't live through the night... It's simply appalling!

dis was scary
-
i bet that was longest 30 minutes ever at that moment 😯

Pilot was so brave and skilled: he kept the rudderless aircraft in the
air for 32 minutes. This flight has been re-created in simulators many
times over the years since then, and NOBODY has ever kept the plane
flying for more than 16 minutes. And if the damn stupid government had
done its job properly and got there quickly enough, hundreds would've
survived instead of just 4. RIP. -
this is the most tragic accident as it was not the Pilots fault and they tried everything
-
RIP

This should be in a movie

The flight crew was amazing and didn't give up. What brilliant airmanship.

Sadly, as a teen I liked the song "Sukiyaki"...and found its singer Kyu Sakamoto, born 1941, died in this crash which killed 520 total. His wife and two children survive him.
Check his song out on youtube by typing in his name or the song name... -
