Join Paola Antonelli and guests for the second and final part of a two-day event that opens dialogue around the upcoming exhibition Items: Is Fashion Modern? Twenty-six iconic garments, accessories, and issues from the fashion universe, spanning the early 20th century to the present, will be discussed in a daylong abecedarium on Monday, May 16. A dynamic roster of designers, curators, critics, scholars, labor activists, and entrepreneurs will explore these topics—one for each letter of the alphabet—in seven minute vignettes. 05:15 Q = Question: Is Fashion Modern? | Paola Antonelli 19:25 A = Air | Tinker Hatfield, VP Creative Concepts, Nike 27:58 B = Blackglama Fur Coat | Dan Mathews, Senior Vice President, PETA 35:04 C = C = Cheongsam | Harold Koda, former Curator-in-Charge, The Costume Institute, The Metropolitan Museum of Art 46:08 D = Dr. Martens | David Godlis, artist and photographer 54:26 E = E-commerce Maxine Bédat, Co-founder and CEO, Zady 1:05:04 F = Facial Hair | Sean Trainor, historian, writer, and educator 1:12:44 G = Gym | Sofia Hedman and Serge Martynov, curators, Museea 1:21:23 H = Hoodie | Kerby Jean-Raymond, Founder, Pyer Moss, and DeRay McKesson, educator and activist, Black Lives Matter 1:36:03 Moderated discussion 3:47:47 I = Invisibility Cloak | Maholo Uchida, Curator of New Media Art and Design, Miraikan, The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, Tokyo 3:55:06 J = Jeans | Emma McClendon, Assistant Curator, The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology 4:03:12 K = Keffiyeh | Hala Malak, Design Critic, Co-Founder of Design and Flow and Kaflab Foundation, and Instructor at Parsons School of Design 4:17:40 L = Little Black Dress | Valerie Steele, Director and Chief Curator, The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology 4:28:35 M = MuuMuu | Mickey Boardman, Editorial Director, PAPER magazine 4:36:32 N = Nose Job | Joan Kron, journalist; Michael Kane, plastic surgeon 4:50:10 O = Opium | Leslie Vosshall, Professor of Neurobiology, Rockefeller University 4:58:06 P = Prosthesis | Aimee Mullins, athlete, actress, and model 5:10:52 R = Rana Plaza | Carmen Artigas, sustainable designer, consultant, and educator; Mary Ping, Founder, Slow and Steady Wins the Race 5:21:12 Moderated discussion 6:35:43 S = Syrian Lingerie | Malu Halasa, co-author, "The Secret life of Syrian Lingerie: Intimacy and Design" and "Syria Speaks: Art and Culture from the Frontline" 6:43:39 T = Turtleneck | Hana Tajima, fashion designer, critic, and consultant 6:50:36 U = Unisex | Hari Nef, actress, model, and writer 6:59:47 V = Veil | Grace Ali, Founder and Editorial Director, OF NOTE magazine 7:11:33 W = Dutch Wax | Omoyemi Akerele, Founder, Lagos Fashion and Design Week 7:33:07 X = XS | Sara Ziff, Founder, Model Alliance, and MPA candidate, Harvard University 7:42:18 Y = YSL’s Touche Éclat | Kabuki, make-up artist 7:52:02 Z = Zipper | Troy Patterson, Contributing Writer, The New York Times Magazine 08:04:15 Moderated discussion View full event program: http://mo.ma/22drPUv Learn more about the upcoming exhibition: http://mo.ma/items -- Image credit: Issey Miyake, Fujiwara Dai.
