I'm in Japan! My First (very small) Tokyo Apartment | Tokyo
Information | History | View | Sightseeing | Video
Just a quick video for you this week! I'm traveling at the moment but wanted to make sure I still had a video up for you. Japan is world famous for it's pioneering architecture and fantastic spatial design. Over the next few weeks, I will be exploring the country and seeking out examples of the best downsized spaces. Last night I had my first experience of a midtown Tokyo apartment and so I wanted to share it with you. I'm curious to know how much your rent is in American dollars

Nothing out of ordinary in the kitchen? Well... what about the single burner hob? xD
-
I think it's awesome......just a bit bland... but there's outdoor space!!!!

0:30 When you realize you are in a small space and there is no need for walking in order to show the whole space.

Lots of Scandinavian cities (e.g. Denmark) has compact bathroom design for rental apartment/studio. I hardly see any bathtub on my 3 trips there in the past. The shower is practically only enough space for one person and I have seen the sink is partially on top of the toilet water tank which makes the bathroom footprint not larger than a twin size bed.
I think it's an efficient design and possibly safer for seniors: no tub to get in/out, small space so if I slip there will always something to break the fall. -
We considered something similar to this bathroom for our tiny house that we are in the middle of building - one faucet with dual purpose / wet bath concept. Just couldn't make it work with the layout.

If you get one of these small laser measuring devices you can easily measure rooms. I have one and it really does work well. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LGANH8K/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Bryce, you still here? You should see my newly built place (April) in the northwest area of the city. I'm actually happy with the design and thinking about using it below the loft when I build a tiny house out in Saitama or Gunma.

And I'm excited to be on this journey! Love the video and your enthusiastic tour! Blessings!

WOW. Could totally live in this tiny space. To me this is so perfect. It'd be nice if micro apartments & studios were more common & popular in the US. I wish. Why doesn't a developer do it and get super rich? if the demand is insane

Very Cool! Tks for the Vid!
-
that's a really cute space.. i would feel like the walls were caving in tho
-
What ever happened to the tiny house you were building to live in? Did I miss something? I could totally live in that apartment.
-
it looks more like a hôtel bedroom than an appartment
-
Some hotels in Japan have the exact same set up minus the balcony and kitchenette

Great video. Someone using the name Harvey Collings has created a Youtube channel with a lot of your content on it. Videos were all uploaded 2 weeks ago.

Cute space. I love seeing all kinds of small spaces, tiny houses and micro apts.

Can't help but wonder if the radiation levels are within normal acceptable range or not. That might be a show of it's own.

Can't wait to see more Japanese tiny apartments!! I stayed in one when I was in Japan and it had the perfect layout. I'm thinking of building one like it in Adelaide!

Very cool Bryce and very compact. Most apartments are like that in China & Japan. Have a wonderful time. Cheers.
