At around 12 billion miles away from the Earth, it is the farthest manmade object from our planet. After providing us with photographs of the distant planets and moons of the Solar System, the probe is now heading into a new phase of its epic voyage, as scientists back on Earth are receiving signals that Voyager 1 has begun to leave the Solar System’s heliosphere, and enter the harsh conditions of interstellar space. Dr Graham Phillips tells the incredible story of deep space exploration, and is witness to an incoming message from one of the probes themselves.
