Subscribe to the Olympic channel: http://bit.ly/1dn6AV5 While Tokyo 1964 saw the final performances of the Soviet gymnastics legend Larissa Latynina at the Olympic Games, it also marked the rise of new upcoming star, Czechoslovakia's Vera Caslavska, who would also gain iconic status in her career. Latynina dominated women's gymnastics in her time, collecting 18 Olympic medals between 1956 and 1964. She was the only athlete in any sport to have won eighteen Olympic medals for almost 50 years, until no one less than Michael Phelps broke her record at the London 2012 Games. Though Caslavska had her Olympic debut at the Rome 1960 Games, it was only four years later in Tokyo that she made her mark as a prominent gymnast. During her career, she won a total 11 Olympic medals, including three gold medals at those Tokyo Games.
