Would anyone here happen to know anything about applying directly to the school as the brunette girl mentioned she did? I'd love to study abroad for a trimester or semester (I don't think my family would allow me to go longer), but I really can't afford the huge price-tags on many of the programs I've found online, which makes me feel a touch stingy, but is true nevertheless :(

日本に留学する意味あるか？
語学留学したところで机上で他の科目を勉強する時間が増えるだけでしょ。だったら自国の日本人留学生と友達になった方がいい気がする。特に日本の高校なんてストレス溜める場所なんだし -
I'm currently abroad with AFS. They had me pay $15,000, and that was the cost for everything for the full year. Most schools have a uniform that you can borrow, but if they don't you'll have to buy one yourself. Like they mentioned every school will be different. For example my high school in Tokyo which is ranked 5th best in Tokyo, we are allowed to die our hair, wear earrings, and wear makeup (yes this is extremely uncommon). You might also want to think about extra spending money. Especially if you go one of the big cities in Japan, you'll probably end up spending 10000-30000 yen (about 100-300 dollers) per month.
