I love Tokyo's subway map, lol... It looks so scary, but it really isn't too bad. I went to FedEx Kinkos before going to Tokyo and had a laminated poster-size route map made, haha... yeah, it's good to study it a little bit before actually riding, lol As for the station numbers, (M7 M8 etc.), the locals don't know and generally don't care. They just know Marunoichi Line, Nishi-Shinjuku Station (M7) or Marunoichi Line, Shinjuku Station (M8). Again, that's what your station route map is for.
