From Yokohama to Tokyo in 1958 横浜から東京まで | Tokyo
Information | History | View | Sightseeing | Video
An early film from Japan's Showa period. Hardly any English lettering seen. A viewer adds: The video starts with apparently a U.S. military housing complex somewhere in Kanagawa Prefecture with views of Mount Fuji (0:28) followed by a train ride (1:07) into central Tokyo, views of Asakusa shopping street (2:03) and Asakusa Kannon temple complex (3:25), images of the Kabuki-za kabuki theatre in Ginza (5:30) and video images of the Ginza crossing area with the Montana pachinko parlor (6:22) and restaurant window displays (6:48) with plastic food, including sukiyaki for only 200 yen! Great stuff! Looks like a ride into Yokohama, then the run up to Tokyo - as described by pkdr2003. I suppose the gentleman at about 5:49 was the one who took the footage? Thanks for posting this! Very interesting!
