Flashing Winds By Jan Van der Roost | Tokyo
Information | History | View | Sightseeing | Video
Performed by The Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra Conducted by Jan Van der Roost This flashing piece was commissioned by Het muziekverbond van West-Vlaanderen and is dedicated to the Arlequino youthband. Colourfully and effectfully instrumentated, this piece speeds towards its finale without any tempochanges. The chord-blocks, wich characterized the introduction, unite this virtuoso piece by reappearing in the end.

my director made us play the 5/4 30 times in a row. I'm a french horn and it was the most boring thing in the world.

The initial melody plays like a deliberate 4/4, but the accompaniment remains in a fast 3/4 throughout. Good arrangement that avoids preciousness.

Ah! This song brings back so many memories. We played this in high school and my band director walked out and took his bows while the fanfare was being played. It was awesome! Love 2:46 also.

Does Concertbandland play a piece called "The Barber of Seville" by Gioachino Rossini?
-
@MrBandMarcher What he is trying to say is that songs usually have words and pieces are instrumental. I get this a lot by some people but song and piece are both universal and should be able to be used both ways.

wij spelen deze ook met onze fanfare, heerlijk stuk

Actually after reading the earlier comments, his own comment was justified. Others were calling this a song, when in fact it is not. But on the topic of the actual piece, I enjoy it a lot, the changing time signatures are really exciting.

That wasn't his original point, he meant that this really isn't a song, it is a piece. The definition of "song" is something that is sung, not played by instruments. Either way he pointed this out quite randomly which leads me to believe he was looking for trouble, but still you got the wrong idea.
