Great vid Luke! I was in Tokyo earlier this year, and was quite sad to not find much retro gaming stuff. I went to the infamous Super Potato in Akihabara, and that too was kinda disappointment. Instead my earlier visit in Osaka's den den town back in 2014 was more promising :) Ah I couldn't find time otherwise I would've contacted you for a hang out!!

Every Sunday I watch these to relax before the work week. I like the rambles!!

I feel like a lot of things are changing and I hate it. I use to watch your videos and other popular Japan related users everyday around 5 years ago and it was inspirational. All I wanted to do was go to Japan then. Last year I finally got to go and things are very different from what I remember. I was thinking arcades everywhere, sport cars everywhere, smoking anywhere and drinking at very cool mini bars. I was kinda bummed that Japan westernized so much in just 5 years. Luckily the old town I was in had great bars and a gaming center with a mix of retro and modern. It felt like what Japan is suppose to be. The modern towns feel like cell phone games, boring with no character. I worry that by the time I get to go back to Japan it will lose all the things I love about it. Side note: Do you get harassed by yakuza selling bj's for 50$ on the street? it was a little depressing.
I am very happy to see that you still release videos and I get to at least enjoy your passion... -
Love these videos!!!! Makes me feel like I'm there, Luke!!

How severely are jaywalkers punished? The consequences are harsh in Germany.

As for playing my collection-meh, I just like having these games in reach for those moments I crave some 2D shmup or Tetris action. Don't play to beat them, moreso just for the experience in short bursts. My motto is: better to have a game and want to play than to want to play a game and not have it. I like looking at my small Saturn collection and having a choice between some hardcore vertical Garegga action or some horizontal Parodius silliness, or maybe I want to fire up the 360 and play some Tetris TGM Ace or maybe I am in the mood for some F-Zero GX on the Gamecube.....
-
I've been collecting shmups for the Sega Saturn, not interested in the current gen at all. I own a japanese 360 mainly for shmups.

indie and homegrown is the way to go.

Can you even call it a selfie if its recorded?
Modern day philosophy, love it :D -
PS4 and Xbox One are mostly sterile, uninspired, hand holding, repetitive drivel, unfortunately. I'll be doing my gaming on PC and Nintendo platforms for the foreseeable future. I'm not against the idea of playing more in depth games on my smartphone if Nintendo starts making them - the only real obstacle I can see to that is 1. People might not have the attention span to play something that isn't a simple time-waster and 2. the control options will be very limited.
I'm trying to play more games out of my retro collection that I've yet to get to. I have quite the backlog of unplayed titles collecting dust on the shelf. -
Lately i have been consumed with GTA ONLINE my favorite series so im not surprised :D So yeah a lot of games i have collected are sitting on my shelf un-played a lot of 360 Jrpgs for example i just cant find time to dedicate to them some i have started but im on limbo with them. I been on a Sega Genesis kick though and added some new games to the collection and beat a few of them and just trying to master some of the games. I have a growing back catalog though : ) But for me the fun of collecting is playing what i want when i want and that's how i enjoy it. If i have to beat a game before i play my next game than it becomes a chore and i don't find it fun. So the sweet spot for me is playing what i feel like at the time and that's how i enjoy my collection. It's like having a video store in my own bedroom : )

Tablets and most importantly mobile games arent for real gamers its for people killing time during something ,bus, car, school, work etc.
Everything u said in the video i agree with and its sad, I dont mind the new generation of actual gaming like the new consoles or the increasing PC-market but the mobile games are cancer dlc and microtransactions the same. -
If you're into pro wrestling you should go watch NJPW ,Best wrestlers in the world.

Do they have Wendy's fast food chain in Japan ?

Video game stores have been disappearing for a long while now here in the states but recent interest in vintage game collecting has sparked several independent local video game shops to pop up, it looks promising for the time being. I collect old an new games from all consoles and it's expensive to collect but I like games. It seems that mobile gaming is pushing hard on consoles market but consoles are still hanging on. Yes some of my comments are somewhat in response to Luke's questions he was asking on this vid so if (Luke you see my comments yeah that's my view on some of your questions.)😊

Luke is a ninja :)

As for YouTube I can only speak for myself of course but I rarely watch tv anymore. You Tube is where it's at for me. I commend all of the content creators out there for making all the nice vids! If you feel exhausted making them, take a break, make them when you feel like doing so, not because you have to. You could make videos about going shopping or whatever, I believe the value of your channel is you, not all the games. Rambling Luke for the win!

Being a retro gamer myself I still enjoy the hunt. I agree there's nothing like heading too the game stores and thrift stores and finding a treasure and hurrying home to play it or checking out the manual should you stop somewhere for lunch. Gaming of the 80s & 90s were sho much better than it is now. It's no wonder so many people are turning to retro gaming.

I will never give up gaming, no matter how stale the industry is. There are plenty of Retro games to hold me through :)
