On September 6, 2012, the George Washington University hosted a ceremony commemorating two centennials. In 1912, the George Washington University relocated to the Foggy Bottom neighborhood. That same year, the city of Tokyo gave the city of Washington 3000 cherry blossom trees. A cherry blossom tree will be planted on campus alongside a plaque commemorating the anniversaries. Participants included speakers from GW and from the National Cherry Blossom Festival and the performance of a Japanese Folk Song, "Sakura."
