Book Reviews | Strange Weather in Tokyo & Audition | Tokyo

I've had a necessary change of set-up guys: sorry about the lighting, I hope it's not too distracting! I'll work out how to get it right at some point! Books mentioned: Strange Weather in Tokyo - Hiromi Kawakami. Audition - Ryu Murakami.

I read Strange Weather In Tokyo last summer and I found it absolutelly amazing, loved it to bits! :)

I haven't read Audition, but I remember watching the film. I was so bored because it was so slowly paced that I actually turned it off before the twist ending, but I don't think whatever it was would have been worth it.
My review of In The Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami is going up next week, so maybe you can see if that one suits your tastes better :] -
I didn't recognize your thumbnail due to the new location. I felt the same about Audition. What was that ending about!? I'm still irritated by it. Also, I start to get anxious when I'm reading a book, knowing that something big is coming and it's nearly the end without anything good happening yet.

I'm a subscriber and I love your content, however I cannot watch this video to the end because the angle of the camera and the background is making me nauseous. The background looks like its falling on the side and it's making the video seem as if it's spinning. However it could just be me. So sorry to point that out. best of luck.

Check out in the miso soup and piercing. Those are definitely one of my favorites from Ryu.

I freaking LOVE a good clear-out so I'm super happy to hear that you're in the process of downsizing haha! I swear, nothing makes me happier than sorting through a bunch of stuff and figuring out what I'm going to keep and what I'm going to get rid of. My parents make fun of me all the time whenever they see me clearing out my closet or my bookshelves but it's something that really calms me and makes me feel relaxed afterwards knowing that I have no clutter in my space (I freaking HATE clutter). So yeah ... I wish I was there to help you move rooms and clear out your stuff haha! xx
Edited to add: I've had the same thing happen to me a couple of times before where I'd be nearing the end of a book and I could FEEL something about to happen, but then I'd look at the number of pages I had left to read and be like: "What the fuck is about to happen? Did I miss something 'cause there is NO way something significant is allowed to happen within the last ten pages of a book!" I can't tell you how much that kind of thing pisses me off. It's like the author is intentionally playing with his/her readers' emotions and I don't dig it. -
I read Audition just recently, and I felt exactly the same. That last sentence just killed the story for me.

I will honestly say that I prefer this view than the one from before. I liked the previous view, but this one has a bookshelf, which really fits for your intent. Great to see you are active for Japanese June. When it comes to names, the family name is first, while what we see as the "first name" comes last. I do need to read something by Kawabata, though. I read Murakami earlier in the year, but there is so much Japanese literature I need to get to. -Josh

Love the background, I am trying to nosily look over you shoulder at the books. The lighting is fine, I did not notice.
I hope your themed month goes well m'dear :D -
I read In The Miso Soup some time ago and enjoyed it, very gutty and gory but a quick, good read.
