Myanmar's State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi has arrived in Tokyo. She's likely to call for more investment from Japan during her 5-day official visit to Japan. Aung San Suu Kyi arrived at Haneda Airport on Tuesday evening. The trip is her first to Japan since Myanmar's civilian-led government was launched in March. She also serves as foreign minister. Her itinerary includes meetings with Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and officials of business organizations. She is also to attend a panel discussion with students at Kyoto University, where she once studied as a research fellow. Aung San Suu Kyi is accompanied by planning and finance minister Kyaw Win. Executives of about 30 companies in Myanmar are expected to arrive in Japan in connection with her visit. Last month, Myanmar adopted a new law to promote investment from overseas. She said in a recent speech that democracy will not take root without economic growth. Aung San Suu Kyi last traveled to Japan 3 years ago.
