Kenjiro Sano, the Japanese artist responsible for Tokyo’s 2020 Olympic logo design, has rubbished claims that he plagiarized a Belgian theatre company’s emblem. The logo, which was unveiled on July 24, almost immediately drew threats of possible legal action in Europe after allegations emerged that he stole key elements of design. Sano said that he was inspired by the 1964 Tokyo Games and presented diagrams to show how he arrived at his final design. this story is stange. supposed if the logo includes any of the walt disney characters, walt disney can 100% claim to the theatre de liege that it is plagiarism becuz the logo include their original works via berne convention. but the 2020 logo does not include any fine art or pure art. the belgium designer already said what they insists to have was trademark representing the theater. the trademark is not fine art and is not protected under the copyright law. so the theatre has no right under the copyright law in benelux countries and did not file lawsuit. its legally correct. but by filing lawsuit to belgium court the belgium designer goes on claiming he has copyright over the 2020 logo. everyone knows that he was paid by job request from the theatre. why the heck the designer can require, from the third party, compensation for which his client can not claim. the belgium designer has to abondon his application.
