American Football in Japan is played around the same time that the season in the US takes place. In Japan, their BCS Championship of sorts takes place on New Year's Day in a bowl game known as The Rice Bowl held in the world famous Tokyo Dome. The game is played between the best college team versus the the best Japanese company club team.

As an American, I find this amusing... Baseball, football... i wonder how many more of our bizarre sports Japan will import (don't get me wrong, I think it's awesome to see American football in Japan)

no worry, American football is quite popular in Japan. Actually, I played @ college 4 years as WR & 3 years @ club-team after graduated. Our A.football history is much earlier before the World War 2. Level? well, due to body-size & its history, probably, top team < Ivy league in US. my opinion.

Yes, I've seen bowl games in the US that were poorly attended for whatever the reason and felt the same. The Tokyo Dome is the largest indoor arena in Japan and is at capacity for concerts and baseball games.
