Japan is famous for its vending machines. People say that there are about 5.5 million vending machines across the country. That’s one vending machine for every 23 people in the country! Most of the vending machines sell drinks of all kinds – hot and cold, but mostly hot in the winder and cold in the summer. Also there are lots of cigarette vending machines. But you can also find vending machines selling everything from books and umbrellas to fresh eggs, bunches of flowers and even cooked meals, like ramen noodles (‘cup noodle’) or French fries/chips. The vending machines in this video are all in Tokyo, except the egg vending machine which is in the countryside in Nara Prefecture and the French fries vending machine which is at an expressway service station (michi-no-eki) in Okayama Prefecture. The drinks machines at the beginning are in the park behind Meiji Jingu Shrine. The newspaper vending machine is outside a newspaper distribution office in Yoyogi. The banana vending machine is unique in Japan, and can be found underground in Shibuya Station at basement exit number 3. Next time I go to Japan I’ll make another video about other different types of Japanese vending machines. This is the first video film I have made. I learnt a lot and I’m going to make more.
