Adventures at the Tokyo Imperial Palace | Tokyo
Information | History | View | Sightseeing | Video
I have mixed feelings about the Imperial Palace near Tokyo Station. I've taken friends there about 10 times (in the last three years). Imperial Palace is in all the tour books... and it is a pretty fun place, but some people find the name misleading. It's a "palace," but you won't see any castles. Or super-fancy/historic buildings. The imperial family still lives there and so a lot of the park is closed off to the public (can you imagine if people were walking around your backyard snapping photos of you every day? That would be awkward, right?) But they have pretty rock walls and moats. Imperial Palace is also really popular for runners (because it's HUGE) and school teams doing training. Personally, I used to work kind of close to the Imperial Palace, so I would sit on a bench for 2-3 hours (once a week) and draw comics. If you're in Tokyo... sure, check it out. But if you want to see a huge, pretty castle, you might be out of luck. Lol, my thoughts exactly. The first time I went to Japan I visited the imperial palace and I must say it was the biggest disappointment on the entire trip. But hey! At least the park still had some cherry blossom!
-
The tours dont let you go inside
-
Have you ever done the tour? I did it in 2013 and it was alright, but I preferred the Kyoto Imperial Palace tour as it seemed more interesting and much more relaxed. But heck, it was a free tour, so I can't really complain can I?

Running circuits around the Imperial Palace is really fun. It's one of the few areas around that part of Tokyo with greenery and wide-open trails. It's also attracted a small number of celebrity runners, including Bill Clinton.

Hahaha! I went there last july and we were like "Oh... this is.... nice? It's hot let's leave" basically we had more fun at family mart than that place xD Why is it so hyped up?

They want you out at night because that's when the ghost come out. Thanks.

I'm visiting Tokyo soon with my friend! I think we'll skip this attraction. Gonna see the cherry blossoms, studio ghibli museum, harajuku, shibuya crossing, and eat lots of yummy food!
-
Wow, that kinda sucks that you can't even go inside to see? Do people still live in it? But anyway thank you for letting me see part of it with You and Rachel.

How tall the buildings are!
-
I hope you both and your loved ones are safe and weren't affected by the earth quake I've just seen reported.
-
Have you been to the New Year or Birthday Greeting? I think those are the only two times the public is allowed inside the grounds of the palace..
-
You should do a video on amusement parks in Japan!

The moat seems pretty useless against that swan. lol

Thanks for the tour. The swan was almost like a metaphor for something.
