I have mixed feelings about the Imperial Palace near Tokyo Station. I've taken friends there about 10 times (in the last three years). Imperial Palace is in all the tour books... and it is a pretty fun place, but some people find the name misleading. It's a "palace," but you won't see any castles. Or super-fancy/historic buildings. The imperial family still lives there and so a lot of the park is closed off to the public (can you imagine if people were walking around your backyard snapping photos of you every day? That would be awkward, right?) But they have pretty rock walls and moats. Imperial Palace is also really popular for runners (because it's HUGE) and school teams doing training. Personally, I used to work kind of close to the Imperial Palace, so I would sit on a bench for 2-3 hours (once a week) and draw comics. If you're in Tokyo... sure, check it out. But if you want to see a huge, pretty castle, you might be out of luck.
