The Japan summer Olympics are still five years away, but there is major controversy over famed architect Zaha Hadid's designs for the Tokyo stadium. The design is expected to be finalized next week. Construction is set to begin October 1. Reports say it could cost more than $2 billion, which would make it the most expensive stadium ever built. Seth Doane reports.

If they can afford why not

Besides the building of the stadium there is also the fact that Japan is one of the few countries to continue killing whales and dolphins. Already the Taiji Dolphin hunts are under way. The "show quality" dolphins are pre-sold to marine parks, aquariums and swim-with-programs around the world. The others are killed for their meat, something most Japanese citizens don't eat any more, and the few "lucky" ones are released. If you want to find how you can help out of just learn more info, check out The Dolphin Project.

3:13 Miku's face + a mix of Teto's and Luka's hair color + Miku's fringe and Haku's ponytail + what ever that dress looks similar to = vocaloid of 2020

every project has it issue.. there's no controversy, it just another local architects criticising another foreign architect..

Zaha Hadid was an amazing architect and this design is just absolutely gorgeous. Two Thumbs up! I say go for it. Change can be good...
-
Oh look they replaced that modern wonder for a big mac-esque stadium... -_-
-
Tokyo is all about being in the future. They're trying too hard at it. Look at their segment at the closing at Rio. They're trying too hard to be cool.
-
People need to calm down. I think it looks cool
-
just do it

you know, I was watching a BBC report on "why tokyo is not fit for the olympics" and it scouted out points such as the anti Olympic movement, tokyo citizens unable to speak English(like Rio was fluent in English right? Japanese ppl didn't complain how London didn't know a single ounce of japaneese), cramped subway(it's tokyo! one of the busiest city in the world! subway is not a relaxing zone! anyway WHY is cramped subway is such a problem; Rios poor security n mugging was nothing compared to CRAMPED SUBWAY RIGHT?), japans super expenses, small hotels and economical drop (Rio was on much greater economical crisis yet they pulled it off so why is BBC worried on Japan alone?)

I mean...that stadium looks awesome! Beijing's birds nest was the first to catch my eye n I expect something similar from tokyo being a leading city (not to mention it being one of the most technologically accomplished!)

See you in Tokyo,Japan Olympic Stadium will bi great..Good luck Tokyo..
-
Look like a giant vulva...

The thing is, its going to be built in Tokto, their capital city. Knowing how dense the population is in Japan in general, 2 billion dollar stadium will last for DECADES to come. Its called an investment and progression. Don't like it? Don't go to it. I'll be graduating by 2020 with my Masters and no one is going to stop me from enjoying the 2020 Summer Olympics as my graduation gift!

Every country wants to outdo the last, the games are losing their true meaning, hopefully the games don't get phased out by financial impracticality because olympics time is magical, my absolute favorite time
-
Fucking morons, this is a great and futuristic stadium. Japan should absolutely build it and the critics have no idea what the fuck they are on about
-
And of course knowing Japan, they're all going to do things futuristically! I bet y'all the 2020 Tokyo Games will be the first Olympics to feature 3D holograms and stuff for the opening ceremony four years from now! And knowing the Japanese, they have a big and I mean 'BIG' major robot fetish! I bet y'all see a lot of them during the 2020 games!
-
And they will be finished with all the venues way ahead of schedule because it's Japan.
-
The 2020 olympics is going to cost the country of Japan a plenty penny I would use the existing venues I have now
-
I think it looks cool
